Artist biography:

Imogen Marsteller is a painter born in Tucson, Arizona, and now based in London. Her work fuses graphic and painterly sensibilities, characterised by strong line, playful colour, and tonal contrast, with a focus on contemporary intimacy. Drawing on a wide range of art historical influences — including Pop, Renaissance, and Baroque art, with a particular interest in female artists — her paintings function as feminist coming-of-age narratives inspired by her own experiences, the lives of the women around her, and the ways women’s stories are shaped and circulated through media.

After completing her Bachelor of Arts at the liberal arts university Sarah Lawrence College in New York, Marsteller spent seven months at The Fish Factory Creative Centre in Stöðvarfjörður, eastern Iceland, where she worked in relative isolation and experimented freely, refining her visual language. She completed her MFA at Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2024 and continues to work from her studio in London.

Her work has been exhibited in galleries in London and the greater New York area.
